A safe space alongside your medical care or after treatment

If you’re reading this, you might be facing a life-changing health condition, or cancer diagnosis, while wanting to keep working or living life to the fullest.

Anyone experiencing cancer or chronic illness deserves to be listened to. Going through a diagnosis, treatment and recovery is a life-changing event, that often strikes us out of the blue. I recognise how much you are carrying right now. The new normal of juggling medical appointments, work responsibilities and the personal toll of living with a health condition is a lot to take on. So I hope first and foremost you are being kind to yourself.

Developing self-care strategies for people living with cancer has been my passion for 10 years and I’m here to help you thrive through your cancer journey and recovery, alongside your medical treatment.

It’s really normal to experience fear, anxiety and fatigue when navigating a cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery. That’s why I want to show you personalised self-care strategies that will help you feel safer, stronger and more empowered to face this challenge.

Wellbeing support through your cancer journey

People come to me at different stages of their cancer journey. Diagnosis, treatment and surgery, then the road to recovery, each bring their own personal challenges. The right self-care package can make it easier to get through these difficult times.

Diagnosis
A health scare diagnosis can feel like your life has changed overnight. There’s often a feeling of numbness and disbelief, or thoughts fast-forwarding before you really understand what you are dealing with. Life continues around you, as you deal with the stress of medical appointments and maybe you’re not sure who to tell and what to say.

I can help you learn how to conquer the destabilising fears, manage unhelpful thoughts and find ways to feel more rested when your worries are keeping you awake at night.

Treatment and Surgery

Cancer treatment and managing appointments can feel like a marathon. It needs fortitude, resilience and a positive outlook. Unless you’ve been through it, many people don’t understand the fatigue, anxieties and disruption that it can bring to your life.

I’ve worked with clients to help them with self-care strategies to thrive during treatment and manage anxieties as they prepare for surgery.

Recovery
The road to recovery brings its own new set of challenges. Treatment ends, and with it the regular contact with your medical team, and you can feel at a loss without that structure and support. Friends, family and work colleagues might expect you to bounce back sooner than you are ready.

My advice to clients is to take the time to rebuild their wellbeing and rediscover the things that bring them joy. Now is the time to do things on your own terms, integrating practical self-care strategies into daily life.

A holistic mind-body approach that complements medical treatment

The mental, physical and emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery affects us in many different ways. Elizian Days was created to offer Mind-Body complementary therapies to support cancer patients alongside their medical treatment and recovery.

Mindfulness for reducing the stress of cancer
The benefits of mindfulness are widely recognised by clinicians in reducing stress and anxiety for cancer patients. It’s a gentle practice where we learn to observe our thoughts, feelings and sensations in a non-judgmental way, without being drawn into them. Using breathing techniques, visualisation and self-awareness approaches, it allows us to create a sense of being present in the moment, instead of fast-forwarding to our fears about the future, or reliving upsetting past experiences.

Hypnotherapy for cancer patients
Hypnotherapy allows us to quieten intrusive conscious thoughts in order to work with the subconscious mind to create more helpful thoughts, emotions and habits. I work with clients to manage their anxiety in preparation for treatment or surgery, accept their new normal or develop new healthy habits to put their health first and still live their best life. Much of my hypnotherapy work for cancer involves helping people identify and express their needs, building confidence and resilience to boost your wellbeing.

Relax and Renew® Restorative Yoga
Restorative Yoga is the use of props to support the body into positions of ease and comfort to facilitate health and relaxation. I use it with my cancer survivor clients to help manage their fatigue and support with the traumas that have accumulated during their cancer journey. We start with a consultation to address the physical and emotional issues impacting their life and tailor poses to relieve specific physical issues, while promoting deep restorative rest. The beauty of Restorative Yoga is that it works on the mind and body as a whole, helping you feel stronger, while regulating the nervous system.

Yoga for cancer survivors
Many cancer survivors find the holistic mind and body benefits of yoga can reduce stress, help manage fatigue and insomnia, ease depression and support pain relief. Now, a clinical trial in Yoga for Cancer Survivors (YOCAS), funded by the US National Cancer Institute, has shown that regular gentle hatha and restorative yoga can help improve those side-effects.

Once you are six weeks post-surgery and with your doctor’s permission, I can work with you to support your recovery with a personalised yoga plan. For yogis wishing to continue their yoga practice during chemotherapy, but wanting to avoid group classes, I can support you with personalised online private sessions.

Client story of Restorative Yoga for breast cancer

Names are changed for client discretion.

‘Robyn’ has been through five surgeries for breast cancer over five years. Alongside chronic pain, she was carrying the emotional impact of cancer treatment and years of pushing through without giving herself permission to rest.

Through a personalised programme of Relax and Renew® Restorative Yoga, she began to experience deep physical relief, improved posture, and a renewed sense of safety in her body. She also discovered that healing isn’t always about doing more, it’s also about allowing yourself to be supported.

How a client used hypnotherapy to manage anxiety around surgery

Another client chose hypnotherapy to support her through reconstructive surgery for breast cancer. Outwardly she was coping extremely well. She was working, exercising and trying to stay positive, but underneath she had a lot of anxiety about the operation itself. She wanted to feel calm the night before surgery, sleep well, and arrive at the hospital feeling confident rather than scared.

We combined hypnotherapy with practical self-care strategies, breathing techniques and mindfulness. I gave her tools to calm her nervous system and mentally rehearsed the experience of going into hospital feeling safe, prepared and supported. She went away with a personalised toolkit she could use in the days leading up to surgery, during her hospital stay and throughout her recovery.

Relax and Renew®

Relax and Renew® Restorative Yoga was created by Judith Hanson Lasater, a student of BKS Iyengar and one of the world’s most respected and influential yoga teachers of the last fifty years. A pioneer in both integrating yoga into daily life, while teaching its therapeutic applications, Judith has spent decades studying, teaching and refining the use of props to support the body into positions of deep, restorative rest. Her approach is grounded in both the ancient wisdom of yogic philosophy, anatomy and the modern science of the nervous system. Her work has led the way Restorative Yoga is understood and taught around the world.

After qualifying as a yoga teacher, I went on to study intensively with Judith, and her daughter Lizzie Lasater, for a further six years as part of my continued professional development. I am a certified Relax and Renew® teacher at Level 1 and Level 2, which is the gold standard in international Restorative Yoga training. At Judith’s invitation, I am also a teaching assistant on the Level 1 Relax and Renew® training, supporting other yoga teachers on their learning journey.

About Liza

I'm Liza Patoux, and I work with people living with cancer, supporting them through the emotional, physical and mental challenges of diagnosis, treatment and recovery, so they can feel steady, safe and more like themselves again.

I'm a clinical hypnotherapist, helping people manage anxiety, prepare for surgery, build resilience and navigate the emotional impact of cancer. Alongside this, I trained in Restorative Yoga with Judith Hanson Lasater, completing both her Level 1 and Level 2 Relax and Renew® certifications, and have spent years studying the physiology of relaxation, breathwork and nervous system regulation.

More than that, I have lived this work. Following my own health scare, I discovered first-hand how important self-care, kindness and the right support are in helping you cope with the uncertainty of treatment and recovery. That experience inspired me to dedicate my career to supporting others through their own cancer experience.

My approach is grounded, evidence-informed and deeply caring, drawing on the therapeutic application of hypnotherapy, Restorative Yoga, breathwork and mindfulness. I believe complementary therapies work alongside medical treatment, helping you feel calmer, rest more deeply, regulate your nervous system and develop practical self-care strategies that support your wellbeing throughout treatment and beyond.

My values are health, positivity and happiness. And that is what I want for you too.
